Integrative Bodywork

An integrative massage session is one in which I draw on all of the modalities I’ve learned up until this point to treat what is currently going on in the client’s body. Deep tissue work tends to be the focus here, with pressure customized to the client’s needs. Releasing of trigger points, addressing restrictions in the connective tissue through compression, stretching and a variety of other strokes will also be incorporated. The client will undress and oil will be applied. I use high quality organic jojoba oil, both unscented and with my own blends of essential oils depending on the needs/wishes of the client.

Thai Massage

Thai massage, also known as Thai yoga massage, is an Eastern modality of bodywork that can be traced back about 2,500 years with its origins in India. It was traditionally taught and practiced in Buddhist temples as a means of healing and of transferring Metta or Loving-Kindness. The receiver is clothed in stretchy comfortable clothing and lies on a mat on the floor. Passive stretching - where the client is guided and moved into various positions, compression, and rhythmic rocking are all key components of this dynamic style of treatment. It offers the client a unique experience of touch and physical support, a beautiful opening of the joints and muscles, movement and clearing of blocked energy pathways in the body through a dance-like session that people often report to be both energizing and relaxing at the same time.

Prenatal Massage

The body undergoes so many changes during pregnancy, some of them potentially quite challenging or stressful for the pregnant person. Each individual will experience these changes differently and may not feel them as disruptive, but within the range of what can happen, here are a few examples: shifting hormones that can cause nausea and mood swings, increased blood and lymph circulating throughout the body potentially causing swelling, added body weight which can pull the body out of alignment, causing tightness or soreness in new places, pressure on the diaphragm and digestive organs causing shortness of breath and digestive difficulties, stretched ligaments creating discomfort or instability in the joints and possibly interrupted sleep patterns due to all of these changes.

Therapeutic massage is known to help with calming the nervous system, bringing the recipient into a parasympathetic state more commonly known as ‘rest and digest’. The breath can become more quiet and steady, and the mind can focus on tuning into the body at a deeper level, releasing tension and negativity held there. Prenatal massage is such a wonderful gift to both parent and baby, united in one body, as it can quell nausea, prevent pain and/or strain during pregnancy, reduce swelling, help to balance emotions by releasing stress, and prepare for an easier birth due to a more balanced nervous system and well aligned structure overall.

It is safe to receive massage at any stage of pregnancy unless you have any high risk factors or specific contraindications from your doctor or midwife.

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle hands on modality in which I palpate the cranial rhythm of the body and work to assess and release restrictions based on those palpations. The craniosacral rhythm is present due to the circulation and exchange of cerebrospinal fluid throughout the membranes surrounding the skull and spinal cord. Another rhythmic system like the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, irregularities in the cranial rhythm can indicate where there are energetic restrictions and through following these places and working with subtle listening and light touch, past trauma can be released. This type of treatment induces a state of deep rest in the client, allowing the nervous system to switch into the parasympathetic state (rest and digest as opposed to fight or flight), which in itself is healing. It can also be very helpful in treating a variety of issues from headaches and vertigo to fatigue and overwhelm. The client is clothed and treatment is given on the table. No oils are applied.
